FIBA & Hantu
It's a new year... but some how, it doesn't feel that different. I used to love ushering in the new year, but for no apparent reason, this year has been a quiet one and has come in silently and without much excitement on my part. Perhaps it's due to the lack of celebration...
Anyways, been busy busy this hols... and it's all coming to an end... sob sob... Been helping out at the Asia FIBA U20 Basketball Tournament as a Liaison Officer for the Indonesia team. They're a really nice bunch of peeps and it was really great getting to know them. Despite the apparent language barrier since not all of them can speak or comprehend English. Still, they're a fun bunch who're always engaging in some sort of fun and entertaining activity. THe competition has ended with China emerging as the champion, followed closely by Japan who trailed by a mere 2 points. Overall, it was quite an interesting experience, being able to help out in an event as such, despite some cock ups along the way. Had some problems due to the clashing of my helping out at the event and my GESL project; caused a huge headache for me and caused me to even argue with my facilitator, but I'm glad that it's all over and done with now, all sorted out. Really have to thank Mr Koh for his immense help though, for being so understanding of the situation and for helping me out of it. Just returned from Pulau Hantu on a 3-day camp. Spent most of the time basking in the sun, and even managed to muster up the courage to enter the sea, of unknown depths, all thanks to Dan and Roy, who had to constantly ensure me that it's going to be ok, and helped me get into the water and straight into a life-saver. It was kinda cool, just floating in the open sea, though scary too, seeing how I'm not an adept swimmer. I'm just thankful that I'm all right and am back home safely. The more adventurous took on diving from the tower at the jetty and I watched in awe, thinking how they can actually manage to do that and become such good swimmers. Definitely spurred me on to wanting to become a better swimmer. Also did some fishing with Dan. Managed to catch a couple of kunings (the fish you find in Nasi Lemak). It's nice being on a secluded island for a couple of days, just chilling without modern technology and the stress and hustle and bustle of the city. Although I didn't do anything much at the island, just being there was relaxing enough, plus, I did return with a great tan! Now,it's just a couple of days to the beginning of the new sem, and although I am excited, I'm kinda scared of the workload to come again. But well, I guess I have to get through that, as I've done so for the past 2 decades. Here's to the new year... hope this will be a great year for one and all. :) |
