back from BKK

I'm back from BKK, tired out from all the shopping and the extreme heat. Been a taxing trip, what with all the crazy buying and long hours of non-stop walking...

Ok, here's a day-by-day account of the trip:

DAY 1

Met Shin who's also from NIE at Changi... he was supposed to take the 11am flight, but it was delayed and they had to wait till 3pm, which was also why our plane was delayed, cos they slotted them in our flight time instead. But anyways, poor things, cos they had to wait at the airport for about 6 hours! Yiling was also on the same flight as me! Was so surprised when I actually saw her at the check-in counter.

Saiful became the first person to send me off in a plane, all the way to the boarding gates! Haha... the only reason why he cld do that? Cos he works in the airport! So sweet of him to rush over from work at Budget Terminal though... Thanks bro!

Took a lousy plane ride over though. Bloody Air Asia didn't have seat allocations and we had to rush in to get seats. However, by the time we got on, there were only single seats scattered around and all of us had to seat seperate from one another. Dan and me were seperated by the aisle, and the others were seated in front. Worst flight I've ever been on thus far. Arrived in BKK at 6:20pm, BKK time, due to the delayed flight. Arrived at the new airport, and had to take a bus from the plane to the terminal to collect our baggage. Waited and waited... then took a mini bus to the hotel. Comfy mini bus though, plus all 10 of us arrived at the hotel together, instead of in individual cabs. Slightly more expensive, but good for big groups like ours.

The suit they got was the one Dan and I stayed in the first time we visited Bangkok. Brought back so many memories! I love that suit! However, we took a twin room, and it wasn't that nice, a bit old and kookish, a far cry from the suit actually. Really didn't like it at all, and was really disappointed, especially after the lousy flight over. But happy to say that I grew to like the room eventually...

Went out to meet Rosenna's dad, who was in BKK then too. He showed us a money changer with better rates, and we went for dinner after. The night definitely improved at dinner, cos the food was fabulous! To be specific, the soup was. We had chicken rice and the soup was really fantastic! Like nothing we've ever tasted in S'pore.

After dinner, we went on to the night market at Pratunam and I'm proud to announce that I was the one with the first purchase! Haha... bought 2 belts and a pair of denim shorts there. Went over to the market behind Baiyok as well... bought my fav papaya salad from the same guy whom we bought from last year. Dan, Rosenna and I popped by for some more food, at a roadside stall near our hotel... think it was some beef or pork soup noodles or something... not too sure, but I was happily munching on my papaya salad. At least I knew what I was eating... :P Since we were all tired, we decided to retire for the night.

DAY 2

Started the day off at Chatuchak, the famous weekend market. Bought plenty of stuff there, but got really disoriented, due to the crowd, the heat, and the overwhelming amount of things to look at. Shopped around quite a bit and bought plenty of things... can't even remember what exactly, and it really is quite a long list, so I shan't list it here... anyways, we actually managed to find this food stall that sells great beef soup bee hoon and we settled our lunch there. It's quite an achievement to be able to find a certain stall in Chatuchak, which is why I am highlighting this point. Heh...

Went over to the pets area and it was quite heartbreaking to see the animals being sold in small baskets or boxes with barely any space to move, being combed furiously so that their fur would look nice and fluffy. Especially when dogs like huskies were being sold, cos it was so hot and they didn't even have water for them. And the poor squirrels, scared out of their wits, being tied to the cages with a ribbon around their necks, choking them whenever they moved too much. But at least there were some shops with air-conditioning and better facilities for the dogs. And they were all so pretty and adorable... though some were so tiny and vulnerable, yet were being put on sale. Really heartbreaking to see that. Some of the dogs' ears were even taped up to make them look smarter and more adorable, but that's just not right. Some wore caps that was just ridiculous, especially since they weren't even fed well, or given a proper space to move in.

We went over to MBK for dinner after Chatuchak and Dan and I went on for some shark's fin soup and bird's nest after dinner. Called it a night after that...

DAY 3

The 4 girls went back to Chatuchak, while Dan I and scoured the whole-sale markets around Pratunam, Baiyok and so on. Bought so many things and walked so much, squeezing with the Sunday crowd to get to the shops and all. The crowd at the market was even worse off than at Chatuchak! But I bought so many things that day, cos everything was wholesale, and to get the wholesale price, you had to buy at least 3 pieces. Spent the entire day around the area, and it was more than we could bear, really. Had a one-hour massage that helped ease the aches, slightly. Really missed the massage and it was sooooo good, having all the sores kneaded away.... ahhhh~

Went on to Suan Lum night market, where we walked till our legs were about to fall off. Bought a couple of things there too... They had a Ferris Wheel there but we didn't get on it though, cos shopping was top priority! There were these nice hand-painted t-shirts that I really liked, but it was kinda pricey, so I ended up not getting it. The artist draws and paints the pictures (of a rabbit, mostly). Kinda looks like those rabbits your see in Japanese anime or comic artworks.

DAY 4

Nursing a backache due to the excessive walking, I couldn't actually walk much that day. Went over to Siam Paragon where we went to the Siam Sea World, and took the package which included entrance, a glass-bottom boat ride, ice-cream, popcorn, a souvenir, and a 4D show. Quite nice, really. There were these sea angels that were so adorable. They really looked like angels in the sea, floating and swimming in the tiny tanks. They also had this jellyfish TV, where they had jellyfish swimming over the screens. There were even a car, fridge, oven, wine chiller and washing machine filled with fish. Saw these gigantic sharks whilst we were in the glass-bottom boat and saw the shark feeding session going on while we were there too.

They had this polar exhibit thing, where they let you walk through a tunnel that was at -10 degrees celcius... it was freaking cold!

The 4D show was really fun, cos instead of being just a 3D show, the images are so close to you that it makes you feel as if you could just reach out and touch them! Plus, the seats move, you can feel bumps rising in the seats, and occassionally, a squirt of water and air. Quite an experience, really...

Went over to MBK and gave up after a while, going back to the hotel to watch MIB then moving on to getting ourselves a 2-hour massage, that was really really good... The massuers actually poked Dan's butt cos they were saying that it's meaty... see, I'm not the only one who thinks so, BB... hehe...

Totally relaxed after the massage, and went on to have dinner near our hotel... wonton mee... hehe... quite nice but not exactly the same as those we get in S'pore.

DAY 5

Went out to the whole sale markets once again for the last day of shopping... bought a couple of shorts and tops, before running out of things to buy. Went back to the hotel after to check out, before proceeding on to shop again, but we were so tired that I couldn't find anything to buy anymore, and we had A&W before returning to the hotel. Sat at the bar and had papaya salad once again. A while later, we were joined by Zi Jian and Leonard, then Nuriah and her friend, before the four gals returned with more buys. After which, we began on our way to the airport, and back to Singapore.

All in all, the trip was really exhausting, what with so many things to buy and so many places to go to. The most expensive thing I got there was a bikini, which was really over-priced, but enought about that. Been harping on that for quite a while. Unlike previous trips, I only bought 2 bags for this trip, including on square "China LV" with Mickey Mouse print. Couldn't really fit in all the stuff in my luggage, so doubled up as a hand-carry bag on the plane too. Bought a pair of wedges and a pair of leather slippers, quite a number of tops and T-shirts, and a LOT of shorts. Haha... will be posting pics in the pics section soon...
