swimming and raining
Had my first swimming lesson last Tuesday. It was all right - weird at first cos had a feeling of uneasiness and embarrassment. A 20-year-old going to learn how to swim, in a public pool, with other likewise, hopeless beings? Oh wells, that's how I felt anyways. Plus, I didn't even know what my instructor looks like, so I was walking around glancing about for a seeming swimming instructor, dressed in yellow as mentioned by him.
I walked over to the deep pool looking for him, only to find children's classes held there. Then I decided to go up to the medium depth pool, since I was apparently having no luck over at the deep pool. And there he was, a guy decked out in a yellow wet suit dipped in the pool. And I was thinking - of course, this is a beginner's class. Of course it's held at the medium pool; what was I thinking? Gee... Anyways, went back to basics with bubble blowing and kicking with the board. It was a group - of about 4 people actually. Plus, every one was at different levels - some can already swim, some who can't even float - like myself. So the first lesson mainly cosisted of me having to hang on to the board for my dear life, floating to and fro from one end of the pool to the other, imitating a frog swimming in the water. It was embarrassingly funny. Yet, I do look forward to my next lesson. I really do want to learn how to swim; well, it is why I paid $60 per month in the first place. It's been raining cats and dogs these past few days. Getting sick of the cold and wet weather, honestly. There's a saying that if it rains on 'dong zhi' (the festival where you eat ah balling), it will continue raining till the Lunar New Year. So there you go - this rain will probably last till the end of this month then. Went back to AISS today - gave a talk to the students there on coming to SWAMI for their CIP. The school looks so different. When I first went in, I couldn't even recognise it. So many drastic changes, no longer the way I remember it. Kinda sad really - like the memories have been erased, the structure no longer there. Did see a couple of teachers I recognised. It was nice being back there - so comforting, even though everything looks so different, I keep looking at an area and thinking how it used to be back then. I see myself and my pals there, playing and enjoying our life as secondary school students. All the worries and troubles as a teen suddenly seem so minute and unimportant. However, it was the best time of my life, looking back as I am. Really miss schooling... really miss the friends, the teachers, the life back then. You really don't treasure a thing till you lose it. |
