volunteering
Happy Holidays peeps! Christmas is fast arriving and before we know it, a new year has begun!
It's been a hectic year for me - graduating and coming into the work force. Something that's exciting yet definitely not easy at all. With me working almost 6 days every week due to work committments, it's been such a tiring month or so. Our 3 days of living alone, a test-run to living together as a couple, went quite well. But now i totally understand why couples always say they have no time to make love. It's real tiring to go home after work and have to cook and all, while ensuring you get enough sleep for work on the next day. We cooked for all the three nights, and even though it was tiring, it wasreally satisfying and fun, sampling how to cook these different dishes and having friends over for our home-cooked dinner. Had a scrumptious one yesterday, with Jac as our guest. The dishes? Chilli crab, steamed pomfret, bean sprouts, steamed egg with meat. Yummy... just thinking about itmakes me hungry. *drools* I think I can get used to this life. Being together with someone I love and care for, doing things together as mundane as cooking and washing up can become so interesting and sweet. Days and weeks of hard work finally came to an end today. SWAMI had its Christmas Celebration with the help of various volunteers amounting to almost 150! Lots of thanks to the organisers of the event, our new regular volunteer base members, as well as the performers and the SPvolunteers and others as well. It's really amazing how wonderful it feels to know that you are bringing joy into other people's lives and how you can make them smile by just that one small gesture. I was previously burnt out from this job. But with the newly garnered satisfaction received from today's celebrations, I'm recharged and ready to find out more and contribute more to this organisation. How long this flame will burn, I'll never know. But I think I should enjoy this while it lasts, instead of looking forward to something new when I haven't reaped enough from this current job. It does call for a lot of out-of-office work (those late-night meetings, Saturday afternoons) but it was all worth it when we managed to make so many elderly happy. It greatly pleases me to see so many people gather together to contribute to such a wonderful cause and to bring so much joy to the residents in SWAMI. Burnt and in need of a recharge... |
