back from thailand!

I'm BACK! I have just survived 4 hectic days of non-stop shopping... I'm now nursing a pair of fairly sore legs and 2 very bad and painful ulcers... must have been all the spicy food... but it was all SHIOK!

Anyways, here's a day-by-day account of what happened...

12 Nov 2004 (DAY 1)

Dan and I took the MRT to Changi Airport... being the kiasu people that we were, we set to meet at 2.30pm at Changi... Dan and I got there at 2pm and went to BK for lunch... Xie Jun came not long after, slightly after 2.20pm, i think... however, we had to wait for quite a while for Charles, his mom and Jun Hong... they were running late, but thankfully not too late...

They came over and we checked in immediately...realised that Charles mis-spelled my name while booking the tix... was afraid i wouldn't be allowed in, but thankfully, i cld get in anyway... whew...

Went in to the Duty Free area and shopped for abt 15min before we went into the room to wait for boarding... i got the window seat! Dan, Jun Hong and me sat in the same row of 3... Xie Jun, his mom and Ah Ma sat in the same row as us too, seperated from us by an aisle... Charles and his mom sat behind Dan and me...

The ride took abt 1 and 1/2 hours... reached Thailand at 6.30pm (Thai time)... apparently, the sun sets real early in Thailand so it was already really dark by then... Charles' dad was already waiting for us at the airport... the plan was tht Dan, Jun Hong and me left with Charles and his mom to his dad's place cos we were staying over there for the first night... Xie Jun, his mom and Ah Ma were to go over to their relative's place... but their relatives were not there when we got out and they kinda panicked cos they couldn't contact each other... all thanks to Charles' sister and her friend, they found out that they were at the wrong terminal... anyways, went to find them and we were on out way to Charles' dad's place via cab... split ways with Xie Jun and his family then...

The traffic at Bangkok is horrendous... took us almost 1 hour to get to his place... his house is quite nice... big and well-furnished... very pretty... they have a dog called Euro... a Yorkshire Terrier... very adorable and obedient... so cute...

Went for dinner at this bbq buffet place which was quite near his place... the food there was all right, but not amazing... simple stuff like prawns, unseasoned meat, vege and some other knick-knacks... wasn't much of a satisfying dinner... but it was still in good-will... after the meal, we went to this supermarket that's open for 24 hours... bought a couple of things and headed back to the house...

13 Nov 2004 (DAY 2)

Woke up at 7.30am... had porridge for breakfast... quite interesting and different tasting... but quite nice... took turns bathing after tht and played a game of Cluedo to kill time... i was the first to be out of the game cos i made a wrong accusation... but in the end, everyone lost cos no one made the right accusation... haha... so sad...

Checked into our hotel after that... the hotel is in some quite secluded area but the room was quite nice... we had a suite... 2 rooms, one living room, one bathroom and one kitchen... comfy tiny apartment... Dan and i took the room with one double bed while we left the room with 2 single beds for Jun Hong and Xie Jun...

Broke my necklace while in the room... actually, I broke Dan's luggage's latch first, then while I was trying to figure out how to fix it back, my necklace got hooked onto the latch and I pulled back too fast so it broke... so sad... managed to fix Dan's latch back but my necklace was beyond repair... sobs...

Went shopping after that... met up with Xie Jun and his family there... we went to this huge shopping mall called MBK for short... i dunno how to spell the name of the whole mall so i shall save myself from the embarrassment of even trying... it's really a huge mall... nothing like the malls we have in Singapore... it's a maze in there...

We headed for the food court first for lunch... I had beef soup with rice... it was quite nice... while Dan ordered this thing called Dragon Meat with Chinese Herbs... he had no idea what it was and all, yet he ordered it... it turned out that it might have been Ox penis... we couldn't confirm, but we definitely suspected so based on how it looked like... ewww... Dan didn't touch it and went to get another dish to eat...

Had a snack after lunch... crepe... it was quite nice but the whipped cream was too much... fattening like heck man... we walked around after that and bought a couple of things each...

Went to this night market after that and shopped somemore... apparently, that place was full of pretty ladies so the guys were pretty occupied with looking at girls rather than actually shopping... Charles bought this huge yellow balloon... haha... but he let it go after a while...

Went for traditional Thai massage... 150B for 1 hour... it was really comfortable... Charles sat out on this one, while Jun Hong was somewhat convinced to try it out... I got this tiny girl and I think she had a very tough time massaging me... needed so much energy... we all got girls to massage us except for Jun Hong... he got this guy who's apparently very good... I wanted to swap with him... not just becos he was quite cute, but also becos he's got more energy and strength and can give a better massage... but it was still good... Jun Hong kept scrunching his face in pain and his masseur kept asking him 'You ok?'... meanwhile, Dan was already falling asleep while Xie Jun was constantly laughing and smiling... it was quite a scene... haha...

Went back for the hotel after that... we dropped by 7-eleven to get some snacks and poker cards for the night...

14 Nov 2004 (DAY 3)

Woke up bright and early once again and went to have breakfast at the hotel's restaurant... it was buffet breakfast and it's free... I had scrambled eggs, potato, soup and salad for breakfast... pretty much the same for the following days too... went back up to the hotel after that to prepare to go out...

Charles came over at about 11 and we headed for Jatujak market... (not sure abt the spelling) it's a HUGE place... kinda like 30 pasar malams combined into one... or maybe even more... went for lunch at the restaurant there first... I had some glass noodle with curry chicken and garlic... it didn't taste very good and everything on the plate looked green... the vege was green, the noodles, which looked more like the kuay chup noodle, was green... there was no sign of curry... but I gulped it down anyways, even though all I cld taste was chilli... Dan had pineapple rice which tasted kinda bland as well... Xie Jun had some macaroni thing which was nice, Jun Hong had some duck curry thingie, and Charles had some seafood hot plate... overall, the meal for me was unsatisfactory... nevertheless; we cleaned up all the food and proceeded to shopping...

Shopped around for about 5 hours... we each bought a couple of things, Xie Jun being the big spender... we kept getting lost in the maze of shops and cldn't finish shopping arnd there... I think we only covered less than a quarter of the shops... Xie Jun was our bargain master... whenever any one of us wanted to buy something, we'd call Xie Jun to bargain for us... and he's good at that too... haha...

They had lots of pet shops there... most of which sold dogs at horrifically low prices! A retriever puppy costs around S$200! I was so tempted to smuggle one home... there were those which sold exotic pets as well, such as lizards, snakes, squirrels and even crocodiles... that was the first time I've seen a crocodile in a fish tank... haha... there was this shop which had a slow loris... a baby one... it's an endangered species so it's against the law to keep them in captive... the shop keeper had it in a small pouch and she opened it for us to see... it had huge eyes... and it was very cute... however, the pets there looked kinda lethargic mostly...

Left for dinner after that... Dan, Xie Jun, Jun Hong and me ate at the hotel's restaurant again cos Dan wanted to have seafood... Charles and his family went to have dinner with some other relatives... we had butter prawn, tom yum soup, fries (also called potato ships on the menu), red snapper (fried) and some fried chicken in some weird sauce... it wasn't really fried and I say that the sauce is weird cos it has this weird taste, even though it looked like normal soya sauce chicken... dinner was nice... the best dish would have to be the tom yum soup... hot and spicy, just how we expected it to be...

Left for MBK once again... shopped around and bought some more things... met up with Charles there and he came back with us to the hotel cos he's staying over for that night...

Didn't do much after returning to the hotel... played some rounds of tai tee... Took a bubble-bath... so relaxing... watched the soccer match between Arsenal and Man U, I think... Man U won 3-1... I slept before the match was over... actually, everyone except Charles went to sleep before the match was over... I did wake up to go to the toilet when the last goal was scored... haha... nice timing right?

Oh, something funny happened... we were heading back to the hotel at night when the girl at the hotel counter called us to go in... she said that we had to clear out of our room that night cos the room has been booked by someone else and our booking was only till that night... we actually extended our stay till the next day but we weren't sure cos no one really confirmed that with us... we were all resigned and ready to move to 2 small rooms when the girl handed us 'our' key... for Rm102... we're in Rm108... so actually, it was a mix-up... the girl was so embarrassed... poor thing... we had a good laugh abt it though...

15 Nov 2004 (DAY 4)

Had breakfast at the hotel once again... nothing much happened, except I found a fly in my spag... after I was like almost done with it... eeeew!

Went back to MBK for more shopping... lots of last minute buys there... rushing from place to place... I wanted to buy this Von Dutch skirt, but they didn't have it in my size... so sad... it was damn nice too...

After MBK, we went over to Siam Centre to shop before heading back to MBK... had some ice-cream near Siam Centre... Dan and I shared a 3-scoop one... we had Guava, Cookies & Cream and Coconut... all 3 were very good... yummy...

We kinda struck gold at the money changer... JACKPOT people! Haha...

The third time at MBK was a mad rush... we had to get back to the hotel by 5.30pm cos we were going for a buffet dinner... spent most of the cash we had cos we were going back the next day and would have no use for the money anymore...

Dinner was at this Jap buffet place... great variety... the sushi sucked... they had prawns, pasta, fish, sashimi, chawanmushi, Thai desserts, ice-cream, soup, rice, noodles and a lot more... we paid for dinner with the jackpot money... haha...

After that, we went on to more shopping at this night market... spent the last of what we had, keeping a few hundred for the cab fare...

We were supposed to have a fashion show at the hotel that night, but Jun Hong was tired and not feeling well so we passed on that... we did take photos of our buys... haha... Xie Jun with the most buys... the reason why we wanted to have a fashion show was becos during our stay in the hotel, the nicest channel to watch on tv was this channel called Fashion TV... all they had was like fashion shows and models and all... and of course the guys enjoyed watching beautiful girls parading around, occasionally flashing more than expected... boobs, legs and tits galore... there was even this programme that had the models posing nude for a photo shoot... nothing was censored, mind you...

16 Nov 2004 (DAY 5)

It was time to head home... we lugged our baggage out of the hotel room and checked out... we left for the airport at 11am... reached there around 11.20pm... our flight was at 2.10pm... argh... so we hung out at the airport... had some food at this place called Pizza Company... then headed to Black Canyon for some drinks and ice-cream... went to meet up with Charles and his parents, as well as Xie Jun's family as well... Charles' sis brought Euro along so we took a couple of photos with him before leaving...

Overall, it was a fruitful trip and it was lots of fun... tiring though... bought so many things... I bought a total of 9 bags... (1 Von Dutch tote bag, 1 Von Dutch small handbag, 1 Gravis sling bag, 1 small slingbag, 1 Puma tiny bag [my fav buy!], 1 wooden bag for Mom and 3 Nightmare Before Christmas purses/pencil case)

Xie Jun paid for my Nightmare Before Christmas buys... He also paid for the dinner at the restaurant at our hotel... thanks a lot!

I'm already missing Thailand... had to carry all my bags (1 big Nike sling, 1 Gravis sling and my reversible Sui Sui tote, all filled with my stuff) to the MRT station... I took the MRT home... the bags were all so heavy... kinda strained my back and it hurts like heck now... cldn't even sleep well last night... but I think it's all worth it... I think I'm swearing off shopping for at least 3 months... haha...

PS: View below for photos of the trip...
